Initially consisting of twelve students studying City & Guilds Creative Studies at Edinburgh's Telford College in 1994, Group Twelve now has a membership of 25 textile artists who come from Central, Fife and Southern Scotland. The Group exhibit every two years seeking to raise awareness of stitched textiles as an art form.

Members' work comprises of a wide range of individual styles in both two and three dimensions, with a particular focus on embroidery. This varies from use of extreme intensity of colour and abundance of stitch to a contemporary minimalist approach with simplified content. Experimental pieces challenge established techniques by the use of mixed media to complement the collection of work. Thus the diversity of work produced results in highly original pieces which, when examined closely, reveal elements of surprise.
